( #2 Take the Black Stout and the debut of Fire and Blood the 3rd beer in the Game of Throne Series)
On Saturday, April 5th we will be debuting Ommegang Game of Thrones #3 Fire and Blood.
FIRE & BLOOD, Named after the motto of House Targaryen, Fire & Blood was inspired by Daenerys Targaryen and her three dragons; Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. To celebrate the rebirth of dragons, three different labels have been created, each depicting one of Daenery's feared dragons. Fire & Blood is a 6.8% ABV Red ale, brewed with pilsner, Cara-60, Midnight Wheat, flaked rye and spelt. Assertive hopping includes CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops. Spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies. Fire & Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt & slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops & rye.
Also on draught will be Ommegang Game of Thrones #2 Take the Black Stout. Inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch, Take the Black Stout was made to be deep, dark and complex like those who have sworn the oath to defend Westeros against threats from the north. The label depicts the Weirwood tree where Jon Snow recited the oath before joining the Night’s Watch. Take the Black Stout has a deep black, almost opaque, hue with a full tan head. Deep aromas of dark chocolate, caramel malt and earthy hops, with light roastiness and a touch of fruitiness. Rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Clean hop bitterness converges with a slight woody character and spiciness. The finish offers a rich malt sweetness giving way to spicy earthiness.
•Malt: Robust amount of Specialty Malt, Chocolate Malt, Midnight Wheat and Roasted Barley
•Hops: Northern Brewer, Columbus.
•Spices: Licorice Root, Star Anise
Comments from the Brewer about this series:
“No one enjoys their job more than I do -- producing and developing new brews to delight lovers of fine beer, add to that the opportunity to collaborate on a beer based on the cultural phenomenon of Game of Thrones and exploring ways to make the beer truly reflect aspects from the show. It made us approach development in a completely new way.."
